Dr. Yaw Sarpong is a distinguished neurosurgeon renowned for his expertise in both open and minimally invasive treatments of spinal diseases, as well as the management of intracranial and spinal masses. His practice integrates advanced technologies, including neuro-navigation and microscope navigation, to enhance surgical precision and patient outcomes.
Born in Ghana, West Africa, Dr. Sarpong moved to Atlanta, Georgia, during his youth. His early experiences in Ghana, witnessing physicians providing excellent care and comfort to their patients, inspired his commitment to patient care and his aspiration to become a neurosurgeon. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Emory University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then obtained his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Sarpong completed his neurosurgery residency training at the University of Washington & Affiliated Hospitals and the University of Missouri. Furthering his commitment to innovation in medicine, he completed a fellowship in BioDesign and BioInnovation at the University of Missouri.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sarpong has held notable positions, including serving as a neurosurgeon at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Portland, Oregon, and Flagstaff Medical Center in Arizona. He has also contributed as the neurosurgical representative for the State of Oregon Trauma Advisory Board, reflecting his dedication to advancing neurosurgical care at both state and national levels.
Dr. Sarpong’s clinical interests encompass the management and treatment of traumatic brain injuries, as well as the surgical management of hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes. He is proficient in utilizing minimally invasive, robot-assisted surgical techniques, which allow for reduced patient recovery times and improved surgical precision. His approach is patient-centric, focusing on educating patients about their conditions and involving them in the decision-making process to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Sarpong is deeply committed to philanthropic endeavors.
